Gondola accessed bike trails reopen in May

26 April 2011  |
The Nevis Range downhill track and the Nevis Red XC both reopen in May 2011. Riders are able to use the Nevis Range mountain gondola, the only one of its kind in the UK, to transport them and their bikes up the slopes of Aonach Mor to the start of these trails. The downhill track at Nevis Range is home to the Mountain Bike World Cup which takes place this year during the first weekend in June (4-5 June 2011) and a number of other mountain bike races and endurance events. Nevis Ranget This year Nevis Bike School has teamed up with DirtSchool to offer a number of race camps for XC and DH riding in addition to its group and private coaching sessions. It opens it doors early May 2011 and also offers guiding on the Witch’s Trails, including the World Championship route, in Leanachan forest as well on the Nevis Red XC and the World Cup downhill. Onsite hire at Nevis Range during the summer months will be provided by Alpine Bikes who will stock a range of XC and DH bikes as well as bikes specifically for riding the Nevis Red XC (with gondola uplift). Occupying the extended Ski Hire outlet, Alpine bikes will now also have a small retail outlet at Nevis Range over the summer. At the foot of the gondola, the newly built Pinemarten cafe bar will offer bikers a wide range of snacks and meals made fresh on the premises from locally sourced produce. Each day a range of hot specials will be on offer as well as specialty coffees and delicious home baking. On the opening weekend of the trails with gondola uplift, a BBQ will be waiting for riders at the end of the day. The bike wash facility will be complemented by 2 showers, which are due for completion by 7 May 2011. www.nevisrange.co.uk
